Quite right. And they shouldn't. They also don't like tens of thousands of children being killed. This isn't victimisation. It's having your humanity intact.

Likewise, whether or not targeting civilians is illegal in certain circumstances, it should be. Civilians will inevitably die in war. This is why war should be avoided until it can't be. But even when war can't be avoided, targeting civilians is evil. It was evil when Hamas killed innocent people on October 7th, and it's evil when Israel accepts a seemingly unlimited number of civilian deaths as "collateral damage.".

Changing the word you use to describe something is not the line between good and evil. It's the act itself. Ideally, the law should be subordinate to the near universal concepts of fairness and justice. Sadly, it isn't. But that failure doesn't mean the letter of the law is all we should, as human beings, concern ourselves with.
