Right, but it's impossible to consider this without also noting the utter disdain that Stalin showed for the Russian people. Millions of Russians died because of Stalin's totalitarianism. Quite possibly moe than died at the hands of the Nazis.
And regardless, I think it's very hard to argue that Putin is behaving this way because of trauma from Soviet mistreatment at the hands of the Nazis. Especially given that, at this very moment, he's killing people who are members of the former Soviet Union and whose families experienced that same trauma.
The most fundamental right of any soverign nation is to choose its own destiny. Ukraine is a sovereign nation. And while I don't know enough to assess the threat to Russia if Ukraine joins NATO, it seems clear to me that Putin being able to decide who does and doesn't get to join, and committing mass murder if he doesn't get his way, is untenable.
