That's actually a great question I wish I'd addressed that a little more clearly in the article. The reason is that given the right circumstances, we're all capable of acting like this. Fear and desperation make people weak. It makes them petty and selfish. Or at least exponentially more likely to be. And there are genuine problems which have nothing to do wiith racism or "owning the libs".

Of course some Trunmp supporters are irredeemable. Screw them. The issue is reaching out to enough of those that can be reached out to, that somebody like Trump never has a chance of being elected again.
