I don't know a single black person who lived through those days who doesn't see very clearly that things have changed. I mean Jesus, are you saying that nothing has changed since the days of de jure segregation? That's insane.
More to the point, there's plenty of non-anecdotal evidence to show that attitudes have changed. Every poll on the topic (I've looked at lots of them during my research) shows that racist attitudes are declining.
Yes, racism still exists. I'm painfully aware. But by every single measure you could care to mention, things are better now than they were then. We don't have to pretend otherwise to acknowledge that there's still work to be done.
