If you want me to capture the entirety of "the black experience" in every article I write, then I suspect you'll be frequently disappointed. As I'm disappointed by the way that the notion of a colourblind society has somehow been twisted into something negative.
Yes, King, Angelou, etc., advocated for a colourblind society. A society where the colour of our skin wasn't treated as something prejudicial or an indicator of character. A society where everybody had an equal opportunity to thrive regardless of the colour of their skin. They didn't live in that society then. Neither do we now. But that society is the goal. And we're closer to it now than we were in King and Angelou's day. That this escapes so many people today is truly infuriating to me.
