This is kind of the point I'm making. Nobody is surprised by Trump saying these things because he's overtly racist. Biden is better at saying the right things, but is that really any better when his true thoughts slip out in comments like these?

Trump is pretty despicable. I'm sure we can agree on that, but to many black peple's minds, Biden is hardly any better. If they don't believe that either candidate will do anything to reduce racism, then why take that into account when they vote?

Also, I disagree that racism is a gigantic issue in the lives of most African Americans. For most, it's background noise. Something they've long since gotten used to as they go about their lives. There's a popular narrative that black people are suffering from overt racial oppression every day of their lives, but it just isn't true. Most black people, like most people of all colours, are just trying to get by.
