This is the ever-present non-sequitur. You admit that the article is about predatory men, which it is, and then talk about trans people not being seen as what they are. I really think a lot of trans allies/activists need to look at themselves in the mirror and ask why, when they hear the word "men," their brain auto-corrects it to "trans women."
I'll repeat it as many times as I need to, with regards to women's safety, I'm not talking about trans people! As I said in the article, if you want to claim that every person who has ever assaulted or harassed women was a man falsely claiming to be trans, I won't argue at all. I have no interest in accusing trans people of this behaviour. I said this almost word-for-word in the article.
The point is, if you don't see a problem with a standard of womanhood that allows me, right now, to be recognised as a woman and get naked in enclosed spaces with women and girls, then you aren't thinking seriously about women's rights, comfort or safety.
And while you accuse my support of being too "general," I've never seen anybody on the trans side of the debate even attempt to acknowledge that this is an obvious safeguarding concern and try to arrive at a sensible standard. Even in the most general terms. The focus is always "How can we make trans women feels as comfortable and affirmed as possible?" and anybody who dares ask, "Uh, what about women's comfort?" is "anti-trans".
And as I also said in the article, you know where this really falls down? Please find me any trans activist, ever, insisting that trans men should be sent to male prisons. Trans men are men, right? It would be transphobic to send them to a women's prison, right? Except that's exactly what they want. Suddenly, trans activists become concerned with the sex of trans men, and not their "gender." And again, to be clear, I understand this. I just don't think the entire burden should be placed on women, who are themselves a vulnerable group.
Women are being expected to accommodate trans women, trans men, and the creeps and rapists who figure out they can abuse this incredibly obvious loophole. I simply cannot grasp how this is perceived as anti-trans instead of what it really is; anti-woman.
