This isn't true (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/12476264/). Fun fact, the likelihood of being intersex is roughly the same as flipping a coin and having it land on its edge. XXY (male) or XYY (also male) karyotypic variations aren't intersex people. They're unambiguously male or female people who have atypical chromosomes. This is like saying that people with Down's syndrome aren't people.
Also it's nothing to do with trans people because being trans and being intersex are two completely different things with almost zero overlap.
We need to answer the question "what is a woman?" because without doing so we can't say what women's athletics is. We can't talk about women's shelters or women's prisons. We can't talk about the fact that women are overwhelmingly the victims of sexual violence and we can't tell which members of the species (men) inflict around 94% of that violence. We can't say for sure, for instance, that I am not a woman. And if we can't say that, by what right would you say to me that I can't walk into a female change room and expose my"womanly" anatomy to the women and girls inside.
This issue goes far beyond bathrooms. I've devoted half an article and numerous other comments to the argument that trans people should use whichever bathroom conforms to their gender identity. .
But I'm not talking about gender I'm talking about sex. Until about five years ago, "woman" was simply and unambiguously the word for an adult human female. Just as "hen" is the word for a female chicken and "vixen" is the name for a female fox.
And let's be extremely clear, what a woman is is not as complex as nuclear fission. I can, in fact, explain what nuclear fission is to you in a way you'd understand (I studied maths and theoretical physics). Of course there'd be gaps in your knowledge, but I wouldn't say "nuclear fission is the process of nuclear fission." And anything you struggled to understand could be proven. Nuclear fission Is not simply an opinion or a feeling.
But let's also be clear about this; I'm not arguing against trans healthcare. I'm not saying trans people don't exist. I'm not trying to prevent trans people from living their lives happily and safely. I'm saying that there are clear areas where trans rights intersect with women's rights. And trying to bulldoze those rights away on the basis of incoherent arguments, without any attempt to have a conversation about it is going to hurt trans people.
