This really is the million dollar question. The Lisa Bonds of the world want to pretend that America is entirely defined by slavery and segregation, but then you have the people who want to pretend that it didn't happen at all, or that all those years have no impact today.

It's very difficult to make any progress when these are the two sides dominating the discourse.
