This, ultimately, is all anybody wants. Palestinian society will be very different to Western society. Yes, they're homophobic and transphobic and misogynistic. We can absolutely critique those aspects of their (and orthodox Jewish) society.

But that's totally separate to the question of whether they deserve to be free or not.

In the Antebellum South, there were all kinds of arguments about black people being too uncivilised/inferior to live amongst white people, or that a desegregated society was against God's will, or that slavery was in keeping with God's will, on and on. People who imagined themselves to be kind and reasonable argued against ending slavery because they worried about how the slaves would behave once freed.

Even if their concerns had been justified, which they weren't, their arguments would still have been wrong.

All people have the right to be free. We can talk about the flaws in their society, and remember that there are plenty of flaws in our own, after that.
