Uh, this is a bit of a stretch. I didn't say it was especially dangerous. And the comparison to the sub is insane. It's nothing like that.

Ice skaters do backflips fairly regularly in ice shows apparently. But not at the Olympics. And landing on a single leg adds another layer of difficulty.

What's badass about the move is that it was illegal but cool and so she did it anyway. She did it on the biggest stage of all, under intense pressure, just to please her fans. I chose that example precisely because this cool moment of black athleticism and agency has been reduced in the minds of many to a moment of sad victimhood. This is the price we pay for this constant presumption of racism.

And yes, as I thought, your argument for narrative two is, "She has black skin, therefore racism is plausible. Because I can dream up a completely fictitious scenario where a white person does the same thing and doesn't get penalised."

This is silly on its face. But it's especially silly when you remember, as I point out in the article, that the move was made illegal after a white man performed it 22 years earlier.
