Uh...you added the word "every." Note that I didn't use it. If you add imaginary absolutes like "100%" to my statements then I don't think I need to defend them.

I think the vast majority of people would be comfortable with the statement the modern American police are different in purpose, structure, culture and accountability to slave patrols. Just as they're different to modern police forces in other countries. Noting that the police force is not a slave patrol is not a claim that they're perfect or that they don't have a racism problem. It's saying that some comparisons are dumb and unhelpful in diagnosing/solving problems.

For instance, was it Kaepernick who compared the NFL to the salve trade recently? I mean, as he pointed out, black "bodies" are appraised for their strength and endurance by the NFL, put to hard, punishing work that profits others, many of whom are white, and are "bought and sold" with little control over their destiny. But is this an intelligent or useful comparison? Does it, perhaps, leave out mountains of context that makes it a really fu**ing stupid thing to say?

Speaking of gish galloping, dude, how many responses do you want to leave per comment??! I'm currently working through a different response where you've left 3 different comments, each of which is a mini-article itself. Good talking to you and all, but I've got work to do! So after I've responded to this latest round I'll be mostly bowing out. I think we've cleared up most of the disagreement or at least highlighted where our thinking differs..
