What standard are you looking for to desribe slavery as formal? Or legal? Was it illegal? Was it carried out off the books? Yes, slavery carried on long after public opinion had broadly turned against it. But a lack of public support doesn't affect its legal status.

And no. Today's schools do not remain as segregated as ever. This is preposterous. Have you heard of the Little Rock Nine? They'd have something to say about this claim.

And we're going to just ignore the fact that we live in a white majority society? Would you make the same argument if we were living in Japan? Or China? Or, inversely in Ghana?

I'm looking for evidence of oppression, not white majority.
