While this is true, I wasn't really thinking about white progressives when I wrote this. I mean, their opinion about the word is truly irrelevant. But I know many black people who this word truly hurts. Not because they're weak people necessarily, but because society teaches us that it's supposed to hurt. That it's the worst thing anybody can say to us.

We're convinced to give so much power to this word, but some black people seem to be unaware that we can take that power away again whenever we choose. And this hypersensitivity feeds into the idea that we need to be protected and infantilised.
