Why are you so absolutist about this? Yes, obviously there were racial tensions prior to BLM. Does that mean it doesn't matter if they make things worse? Should we use the same logic to talk about Trumps' racist rhetoric? After all, it's not like he was the first racist. Or even the first racist president. So who cares if he made matters worse, right?

BLM had a number of stated aims. Most of which were kind of ridiculous to be honest. But yes, seeing as they fundraised on the back of black people's deaths. seeing as they were more than happy to use black communities for emotional leverage, seeing as the name of the organisation is literally Black Lives Matter, I think it's reasonable to expect that they're working to make positive changes for black people. That's certainly what the majority of people who gave them money thought they were doing.

And even if, as you claim, their purpose was nothing but "addressing police brutality at all levels in black communities," they have failed to do that. Minneapolis City Council's attempts to defund the police, which were unpopular with black residents, led to an increase in black deaths. Police shootings are up. The climate between police and black people is more antagonistic. The public is busy arguing about which colour lives matter instead of being united in fighting police brutality. If you think BLM has no culpability here, I'm not sure what to tell you.
