Will you please stop telling me what I'm trying to say?! I know what I'm tryng to say. The fragment "a reflection of today's reality" is a recognition that it absolutely was the reality for black people once. It gets no more subhuman than the treatment of our ancestors during slavery. I'd never pretend this wasn't the case.

And no, I'm not saying that my experienc of racism is representative. Neither is yours by the way. But you yourself balked at my use of the word "subhuman" before I pointed out that you're the one who used it. You were the one telling me about how succssful and and well eductaed you are. About the famous people you know and glamorous circles you move in. How does this fit with a narrative of constant, daily oppression. I don't know what you've been through. You're absolutely right, but your own words (once again) suggest that the picture you're painting isn't accurate.

As for George Floyd or the other people you mention, do you really think you’re telling me something I don’t know? But here's something you might not know. Try googling Tony Timpa, or Ryan Whitaker, or Duncan Lemp. Tony Timpa died, crushed under the knee of a white police officer for over 13 minutes, even though he was handcuffed and unarmed. He had called the police himself, beause he had schizophrenia and was off his medication and scared. The police officers cracked jokes as he begged for his life. The whole thing was caught on video. Want to know why you've never heard of him? Because he was white.

Can you imagine what would have happened if he was black? Can you imagine how difficult it would have been to persuade you that the cops didn't kill him because they were racist? Once again, I'm not arguing that racism isn't a problem, but the narrative that every bad thing that happens to a black person happens because white people just can't wait to kill them is counterproductive and inaccurate. But the rage and fear it causes is crippling us as a community because more and more of us are becoming incapable of having a good faith conversation about these issues.
