Yeah, absolutely. I’m not arguing that the questions aren’t based in reality. Every single one of those questions apply to me personally. I’d have been right at the back of that group.

I’m saying that if you ask questions designed to segregate a group by race, you’ll end up segregating them by race. And in the end, you’ll have learned nothing of value about the reality of those kids’ lives.

A conversation about the issues in society needn’t implicate any of the children in the class. In fact, it shouldn’t. Nor should it focus so exclusively on one particular set of “disadvantages” that those children are taught to feel “less than”. Some teachers seem so eager to demonstrate how “woke” they are to the issues that they forget they’re dealing with real, impressionable human beings.
