Yeah absolutely. Proportionality isn't the goal. One of the hard questions is, does everybody have equal support and opportunity when it comes to entering and thriving in these fields? This is an incredibly difficult question to answer conclusively, which means there will always be somebody who can argue that they're being discriminated against.
What we need to do is find a definition that is good enough that the majority of people are satisfied that differences are down to choices rather than discrimination. Otherwise the argument never ends.
