Yeah absolutely. And focusing *exclusively* on our struggles creates an image of black people, both in the minds of others and in our own minds, which I think is damaging. Yes, we should highlight and oppose racism, of course, but I think part of the reason some people see as something "other" is that we are represented in such a one-dimensional way. Our stories only seem valuable if we're suffering or being entertainers.

It's funny, the surest way I can get pushback from a certain type of white person is when I insist that being black isn't just a daily grind of racism and oppresssion.
