Yeah, don't get me wrong. It's not that I don't see this. Behind my relief at the Arbery verdict is the knowledge that the evidence surrounding it was suppressed for months, for example. I'm an optimist, but I'm not naive.
It's just that the cynicism that I see becoming popularised by people like Colin Kaepernick (damn, I'm so disappointed in the turn he's taken after respecting the stand he took so much) and Joy Reid doesn't help us. It's become reflexive in some people to assume the worst and yell "white supremacy" at every problem. This is psychologically cancerous. And, increasingly, not a reflection of reality. For our own sake, I think we have to encourage confidence in our ability to improve things.
