Yeah, I can't claim to understand what they're thinking either. I've never experienced what they're experiencing.
But I will say, if Hamas gunmen came to my house with my family and my children there, and told me to keep some people in my house, I might do it. If I'd grown up in Gaza all my life, seeing how Israel treats my people, I might even support Hamas. Especially as people in Gaza are obviously steeped in propaganda about what Hamas did on October 7th.
But more importantly, there are 2 million people in Gaza. Judging them all by the actions of a family who held hostages in their home doesn't make much sense. Any more than judging the whole of the Israeli population by the actions of the IDF.
