Yeah, it's hard to say. Certainly humanity hasn't always hated each other over these things, but we've been awfully good at finding reasons to hate each other throughout history. That's definitely not a new thing.

Extreme wealth is undoubtedly a big problem though. There is more than enough money for everybody to have their needs met, which, in turn, would lessen the feeling that we were in competition with each other, but as you say, the people stockpiling money aren't interested in solving that problem.
