Yeah, sadly there are a few writers here who like to do that kind of thing. And more who aren't willing to back up their arguments.

Racism, particularly in America, is hard to compare to any other example in history. I guess, with the possible exception of apartheid South Africa. The scale, the degree, the legal mandate, you'll definitely get pushback if you compare that to individual examples of cruelty.

The question is, what now? There are some people who want to pretend that nothing has changed since 1965. Or even 1865. There are some people who want to pretend that racism is a thing of the past and 400 years of oppression no longer has any impact because some laws were changed 60 years ago. And, of course, others who think America is theirs even though they're immigrants like everybody else.

There are many of layers of deeper thought and empathy and honesty required here. We can all improve in at least one of those regards.
