Yeah, somebody else had this take. It's hard to read his mind as you say, but I definitely got the impression he was scared. Maybe not when he first set up the video, but by the time they were yelling at him with their guns pointing at him and telling him he was "fixing to ride the lightning", I think anybody in their right mind would be scared.

As far as him driving to a well-lit area, this isn't against the law. He turned his signal on immediately to indicate to the officer that he was complying. Now there are a lot of "maybe's" and "what ifs", but imagine if this scenario had gone down in pitch darkness Imagine if Guttierez had been even half as confrontational, but it was dark and they couldn't see his hands.

The bottom line is, if the police behave like this, people will act with an abundance of caution and mistrust. It's apparent from the video that Guttierez didn't see Nazario as a threat by the time he pepper-sprayed him. At that point it was nothing but a power trip. I'd love to have seen Nazario be more compliant, I'm not saying he's completely blameless, but it's easy to talk about how somebody should have behaved when there isn't a gin in your face.
