Yeah, that's exactly what I'm talking about. That's the grift. It's so tempting to be simplistic and reductive and emotive, especially as you start to gain popularity. Worse, you're financially rewarded for doing it. I spend far more time on Twitter than any sane person should, and I see it constantly. Smart people pretending to be dumb for social approval.

I strongly suspect that Kendi knows much of what he says is bullshit. The fact that he consistently refuses to debate other prominent black voices who disagree with him is evidence of this. But he knows he can keep raking in the cash by stiring up the emotions of his base with half-truths and cherry picked data.

As for the video, honestly, I think it's hilarious. As the guys in the video do. It's a stupid mistake. Obviously it should be fixed. Obviously the people designing the machine were idiots who for some unfathomable reason didn't just use a basic proximity sensor. Obviously this kind of thing reveals blind spots that need to be seriously tackled because they could show up in something much more consequential than a hand-sanitiser.

But I can't imagine being *upset* by this particular case. Especially when there are far more serious and damaging issues affecting black people. Frankly, I'm much more upset by the existence of DiAngelo's books than I am about this thing. If I could restore the sanity of everybody who's been brainwashed by her crappy books, I'd gladly deal with "racist" soap dispensers for the rest of my life.
