Yeah the sad thing is, I don't even care about this.
This isn't about science or me not believing that some people are inherently, unchangeably trans. I find gender ideology completely philosophically incoherent, but so what? I'm not trans! If I meet a male who asks me to call them she I will, except in the case of people like Karen White, call them she.
The problem is, I keep hearing trans people say "we just want to be left alone," and this isn't true at all. Gay people just wanted to be left alone. "Just let us live our lives, let us get married, don't make it a crime for us to do whatever we choose in the privacy of our bedrooms. We're not asking you to do anything or change anything that affects your lives, just mind your own business."
The difference with trans rights is that they demand society's very active participation. "Abandon millennia of evolutionary programming and treat people with penises as if they're identical to women from the first instant they make the claim. Give them access to female prisons and rape crisis centres and communal changing rooms. Pretend that there are no athletic differences between males and females. And if you even want to talk about any of this, you're a bigot."
This is the problem. It's the demand to be obeyed without so much as a conversation. Some people simply can't do that. No matter how much they want to be kind. And the louder and more abusive the demands become, the more people just end up saying "fu** this. I have no sympathy for you anymore." I'm literally seeing the change happening in some people with my own eyes.
