Yeah, this is a good point. I've spent a little time travelling in Thailand as well, and I think the main difference there is that kathoey are such a normal part of Thai culture. I don't think anybody would bat an eyelid regardless of the bathroom they used.

Sexual assault rates are faaar lower in Thailand as well, which I think affects people's mindset.

When all the debate about trans people in bathrooms was happening I understood why people were concerned, I could just also see they were thinking about it the wrong way.
