Yeah, this is a great point. The tragedy is, a compromise had already been reached. And most Americans supported and still support it.

But yes, certainly compromise isn't always possible. But persuasion almost always is. At least on a long enough timescale. I guess the tricky part is that both sides need to be willing to put their weapons down so to speak.
