Yeah, this is broadly it, but I'd go a step further; black people aren't "a people".
Do you think we should tel a variety of stories about white people? Do you think there should be a certain mix of stories about particular European heritages? Do you feel any concern if you don't see certain white stereotypes in movies? Can you even think of any white stereotypes?
The idea that black people are a subset of humanity in any meaningful way automatically "others" us. It makes it that much more difficult to see us as ordinary people. Which is why this idea came to be in the first place. It's easier to mistreat people if you classify them as "other" first.
