Yeah, to me, these two things aren't in opposition. I agree that it was necessary (or at least important) and, to be honest, I don't really care if it was tokenism either. I care that Biden publicly made it about tokenism.

You're right, it was a brass-balls move by Clyburn 😅 I like it. But I'd presume that if Clyburn said that publicly, he'd already said it privately. And even if he hadn't, Biden could have responded privately. Johnson nominated Marshall because he was black. But he didn't make Marshall's nomination about him being black. I think the difference is very important. Most of all for Jackson's credibility.

As you say, none of us ever gets to know (or even feel as if we know) if Biden would have nominated her if he hadn't been coerced. I think that matters. Especially for the first ever black female Supreme Court justice. There should be no asterisks here.

p.s. I think this is the longest we've ever gone back and forth without you calling me a racism denier or a white supremacist! 2022 might be our year!❤️
