Yep, I 100% believe it's just a hustle. In fact, Tate acknowledges that a lot of what he says is just to stir up an emotional reaction. But sadly, some of the young men listening to him take him seriously. And they do so largely because there isn't much better guidance out there. But there is an awful lot of rhetoric telling them they suck.
That video is just emblematic of the lack of empathy extended to men as far as I'm concerned. If a husband drugged and mutilated his wife, we'd all immediately understand what an awful thing that was. Not a soul would even be tempted to laugh. Which, of course, is as it should be. But somehow there's a switch that doesn't flip in a surprising number of people's brains when a man is in the same situation.
No, I haven't heard of Norah Vincent, but I've seen some absolutely fascinating insights from trans men as they discover the reality of being perceived as a man. I'll definitely be writing about that at some point.
