Yep. I've written an article with almost exactly this title.
But exactly, I don't know of a way for Gazans to free themselves from Hamas or Israel. Which is why, if nothing is done, both Israelis and Gazans will continue to die. Because all they have left is desperate struggle. If I were in their situation, and Israeli bombs were killing my children, I would probably consider fighting back an end in itself.
Israel hold almost all the cards right now. Even if Hamas were out of power tomorrow, something I would very much like to see, Gazans would still be living under blockade, settlers would still be terrorising Palestinians in the West Bank with the assistance of the IDF, the Israeli government would still be signing off on laws that discriminate against Arabs and facilitate corrupt land buying practices.
As I quote Ami Ayalon saying in the article, it's not that Palestinians have anything to gain by fighting. It's worse than that. It's that they have nothing to lose.
