Yep, this is a feature of so much activism. Exactly the same thing happened with anti-racism during the "racial reckoning." It seems the closer a movement gets to achieving its aims, the more likely this shift in focus becomes.
There's absolutely a huge rejection/fear of masculinity in society today. I wanted to include a video, but sadly couldn't remember where I first saw it, of an expectant mother in tears because sh'ed just found out she was going to have a son and knew he'd be inevitably "toxic."
Just imaging growing up in an environment like that. Poor kid.
And yes, I completely agree, there's a middle ground for masculinity that's the sweet spot. Masculine traits are essential. But like anything, they need balance if they're not going to be destructive. And interestingly enough, some of the most "progressive" men that I see online are the quickest to be horrendously sexist when a woman says something they don't like.
