Yes, I understand this. I'm a staunch defender of free speech. That doesn't mean, as you seem to agree, that there are no sensible steps we can take to defend ourselves from malicious speech.

Infringing on someone else is a good example. What exactly do you mean by "infringing on someone"? Have you thought carefully about the full implications of that sentence? Seriously exploring this question alone offers lots of room for important debate about which point speech impacts people's safety or reputation or ability to take part in public life.

In the social media age, I think it's incredibly important to have these conversations. Because the ability for any idiot to anonymously communicate with millions of people from the comfort of their toilet is an entirely new situation for humanity. And banalities like "who gets to decide" don't help us solve the obvious problems that can arise from it.
