Yes, it does mark your post as edited. Because it was edited. I knew that even before getting the screenshot because I remember the original comment.
I honestly can’t tell at this point if the gaslighting is deliberate or a subconscious reflex or just a genuine mistake. I truly don’t want to believe that this many people are so wilfully, childishly dishonest. But I wade through so many lies and manipulations on this topic it just leaves my head spinning.
And it’s not just on the facts of the conflict, that, I could at least dismiss as ignorance or a totally understandable failure to have spent hours and hours researching those facts. Not everybody has the time or the constitution for that.
But it’s the silly, petty stuff.
It’s the pretending to be confused about being accused of whataboutism when you know that’s what you’re doing. It’s the claim to “not remember” editing your post when I immediately recognised it had been edited despite it being only one of thousands I’ve read over the past few months, or that the post isn’t marked as edited when literally everybody can see that it is. It’s reaching for this lazy, cynical accusation of antisemitism, even when nobody has said anything about Jews or Israel, only your failure to construct a coherent argument.
Stuff like this is just so pathetic. It’s beneath you, and frankly, every adult on Earth. And seeing you indulge in it anyway, for what, that vague sense that you avoided losing an argument on the internet? The chance to cling to your wrongness for a little while longer, even while knowing deep down that you are wrong? It’s just beyond words.
I am not and never was an antisemite. You only wish I were because you think it frees you from the obligation to engage with the facts (I note that when others here have presented you with the facts, you just stopped responding to them too). Don’t address the content, just ask why I’m not talking about Yemen and inform me (evidence-free, of course) that I don't care about their crimes! (I’m sure, when you see somebody talking about Yemen, you immediately ask why they aren’t talking about Israel, right? You’re not a hypocrite or applying double standards, riiiight??)
I’m the same person whose very first article on Israel Palestine was a full-throated condemnation of Hamas and terrorism and everybody who defended or cheered for either of them. The same person who has written several articles criticising actual antisemitism. I feel exactly the same way about all that today.
Unfortunately for you, I’m also the same person who has spent years on here genuinely striving to understand the truth, not just blindly picking sides and ignore anything that complicates the issue. And as I’ve done so, I’ve learned more and more about the terrorism Israel is guilty of. And that a surprising number of people are either unaware of it or are lying about it (and, of course, slandering everyone who points out their lies). Criticising those atrocities is not, and never will be, antisemitism. In fact, there’s a far stronger argument that conflating Jewish people at large with Israel’s crimes is antisemitism.
