Yes, we do. But ultimately this is also just a word game. My position is simply that the "trans" in trans woman serves a function. If trans women were identical to women, we would simply say women are women and the whole thing would be moot. We don't because we can't.
I don't need to redefine words to respect the rights of trans women to live authentically, safely and with dignity. But you can't change what somenbody is simply by adding the word "women" to their name. A trans woman is not the same as a woman. A pommel horse is not the same as a horse. Words mean things.
And no, I'm not saying that to keep women safe we need to ban trans women from female only spaces. In fact, I took the time to write you a detailed explanation of my views and the fact that changing rooms are the only case out of four scenarios where I think that specifically pre-op trans women shouldn't be allowed in female only spaces.
[ Okay, actually, as I read your reply further this is just getting stupid. Not only did I not suggest that trans women are all sex workers, not only did I clarify that I didn't when you accused me of it last time, but you're still making the same dumb accusation. This is a waste of both of our time. If you're going to ignore what I'm saying or make baseless allegations because you can't refute the facts of what I'm saying, this conversation is even more useless than I thought. So here's the deal, if you repeat this or any other untrue allegation without quoting from the place where I said what you're accusing me of saying, I'm going to block you and live a full, happy life in which I never think about you ever again.
I just want you to know up front, if you come back and find that I've blocked you, that's why I did it. ]
Anyway, yes, please provide stats for trans women being killed that don't include stats for trans women who were sex workers. Just as, if I were to provide stats for women being killed, I wouldn't include stats for sex workers. Recognising that some trans women and some women are sex workers is not claiming that they all are.
In fact, why not also limit the stats to trans women in America. I don't doubt that these trans women exist, and I'm not indifferent to their suffering at all. But all the information I've ever seen suggests that this number of trans women is very small and not the huge numbers that allies always try to insinuate that they are. If I'm wrong about that, then yes, that would certainly change the way I see the issue.
Although, I don't believe that trans women using a gender neutral bathroom to get changed (as I've done myself on occasion), increases the likelihood of them being killed. As I said, in the case of changing rooms, it's not just about the comfort of women but also young girls. I notice how you left them out of your argument (if you think they should have to "just ignore a man's penis" too, just don't tell me).
I can't even understand what you're trying to say about sports. But I used to be a sprinter. I broke the 100m world record for senior female athletes when I was 16. Boys that age achieve this fairly regularly. I'm not sure what nonsense you've absorbed regarding this, but male and female bodies are simply different. It's not misogynistic to have separate leagues and records for men and women. In fact, feminists fought for those separate leagues precisely so that their hard work and achievements as women could get the spotlight they deserve.
Yes, sports will never be a perfectly level paying field. The top 1% of athletes have a host of advantages that the other 99% of us lack. But because males have a host of advantages over females, the top 1% of females aren't at the level of the top 10% of males in almost all sports. This isn't misogyny, just biology. It's why mediocre male athletes (who, bear in mind, are still in the top 10% of males), like Lia Thomas for example, suddenly become record breaking athletes when they compete against females. The idea that women are "catching up" to men in sports is both untrue and hilarious.
But just for fun, please, please do show me evidence that women are catching up to men. Especially given, just for example, that the women's 100m world record hasn't budged since 1988 (no women have even come close to it since) and the men's was last broken in 2009. Seems like if women were "catching up", we should see the opposite trend, no? While you're at it, could you clarify whether the male/female differences in height, muscle mass, skeletal structure, heart size, lung size, hand size, bone density just to name a few are also down to misogyny? Could you explain why, even in sports with weight classes like weightlifting, males outperform females of a similar weight by significant margins?
Integrating sports is an absolutely stupid idea that is only ever floated by women who have never competed and trans people/allies. You would pretty much never see a woman or a trans woman in the final (or probably the semi-final too)of any sporting event ever again. If you're curious, here's what it looks like when a world class female athlete competes against world class male athletes (bear in mind, this woman could smoke the vast majority of men, just not the top 10% or so).
