You're not wrong, Trump definitely wasn't a hawk, in fact, I think his attempts to broker peace in North Korea and the Middle Eastwould have been widely praised if they were made by most other presidents. But I'm not sure I buy that as a significant reason why people voted for him. Especially when they supported him to the messianic degree that they did.

Plenty of white, middle class people died as a result of his disastrous handling of the pandemic for example, yet they still voted for him in droves in 2020. And as you say, editing his victory speech to minimise his anti-war views after he'd already won, couldn't have made a difference to the outcome of the election.

Don't get me wrong. I also think it's ridiculosly simplistic to say that they all voted for him because they're racist. I just think there are likely stronger reasons than his anti-war views. For a start, I don't think the democrats could possibly have chosen a candidate who was more widely hated to run against him. And even she won the popular vote.
